Tonight was the weigh-in for the Power Ranch 1st Ward Pinewood Derby. Let me tell you, some of these guys (the dads, not the boys) are SO serious about the race. Girls, I can only equate the tension to showing up at your Senior Prom with the same dress as 2 other girls! Now I get being competative and wanting to win etc., etc. but, seriously! Lets all join hands and look at the big picture together. Our little boys are racing what used to be a block of wood down a big metal track. That's it. Oh, and then we will all eat cookies and pass out homemade certificates. At the end of the Pinewood Derby there will be no world peace, global warming will still occur, and world hunger will not end.
Seriously...seriously! Deep breaths boys, deep breaths...seriously!

Oh Man do I ever know what you are talking about. I read this post and was laughing so hard because it is so stinkin true!!! This whole Pinewood Derby thing is WAY WAY bigger to the Dads than it is to the boys! Our last Pinewood Derby they asked all the Dads to make their own Pinewood Derby Cars and then help the boys with theirs. Key word here is HELP. I thought maybe just maybe the men would do their thing and that the boys could just have fun and that would be it. Yeah right! It was even more rediculous because now they had two cars.

Amen, sister!
Ok missy!I don't see anybody posting over the center pieces at a relief society function, or even the million hours the young womens presidency puts into a pancake breakfast. This is the boys manhood here. If they showed up with a car, done exclusively by themselves,(which I did every year I had one) they would be heart broken trying to compare with everybody else. Call it the equivalent of a male peacock showing off his feathers. The heart break that would be felt with a sub par car would be in line with a 14 year old girl, going to the mutual dances and not being asked to dance once, and, being turned down when asking someone to dance. That's right. We are talking huge here. Not to mention the calls of my dad is better than yours. We'll see who's dad is the best tomorrow! HA!
All i'm saying is what if all you dads put this much energy into your Home Teaching??? Can you imagine our statistics? We would probably all be translated. It is a ton of fun, i've just never seen men so concentrated on a task before. It's a little spooky!
